RE: Wilderness Camping

depends on where your going and in what area, mountain lions and wolfs would worry me more then bears would unless they were grizzly bears.better a 44 mag then something smaller on dangerous game.i carry a pistol but a high power short lightweight carbine would be better then a pistol.i use a old military enfield jungle carbine in 303 with 10 round mag it works no matter what, snow, rain ,mud, sand .

RE: 10% Ethanol in AZ Gasoline?

i believe E10 does lower mileage we were useing E10 all spring and summer you could tell by the smell of the fuel when filling up, it has a differant smell to it,now thats its getting cold out the fuel mix has changed you dont smell it anymore,it smells more like gas is suppost to smell and the mileage has gone back up driveing the same number of miles as befor and i dont need as much gas when filling up anymore.didnt need to run the numbers to to tell the differance in the mpg between the two differant fuels it shows up when fueling up and not needing as many gallons i did over the summer months with same number of miles driven.

RE: Campground Sneekers aka Theft of Services Increasing?

one park we go to has a drop down arm like a rr crossing gate has, only way to get in is to use a card they give you that you put in a slot to open the gate or go in and pay your CG fee, going out theres another gate on a one way bypass road that will open by itself but no entry.another park has a gate guard that stops everyone comeing in looking for your cg pass.

RE: RVs and Airports

wouldnt want to do it at the albany airport no place to park something that big, hard enought just for a large PU truck, you would not get thru the toll parking area barrier to low,you would have to drop the trailer some where out side then drive in.911 has changed everything they would not allow it.shuttle buses they use are not as tall as a rv,they do have a long term parking area with a shuttle from it away from the main area that might work.

RE: LP Tank Problem

its probably not the tank there pretty problem free not much to go wrong there ,sounds more like the hose or fitting.hoses are cheap.make sure every thing is clean, if theres a o ring missing on the end of fitting where it screws in the tank replace it,some have it some dont.if the hose it self is leaking replace it.

RE: Really Need Info re Detroit Diesel 8V92TA

if your on a limited budget you might want something else, all the parts on a big bus will be expensive along with the labor charges but the power the old tubo 8v92s had was awesome, they were a good engine in there day, easy to rebuild ,had one run away a few times many years ago you had to trip the tubo shut off plate to shut it off,we had a lot of differant DD on construction equitment and large trucks back in the old days,

RE: Parked for the Winter

mines plugged in to keep the battery up ,you could just plug it in for a day every week and turn your batterys off while sitting and on for chargeing, your engine battery doesnt get charged thou unless you wire it in or add a trickel charger.

RE: Undercoat for RV's?

theres differant kinds some are tar based some wax base or the old stand by greese thats melted and sprayed on or old motor oil both messy and collect dirt that sticks to it,i just spray paint with rustolum and theres a asphaltum paint you can spray on that takes a very long time to dry but works well and doesnt peal that easy after a while.then the new rust converters my old favorite was a zink paint you brushed on that seemed to last forever but was expensive.

RE: cleaning the roof of snow

i climb on the roof useing the mounted ladder here the snow can be any where from wet to dry ,sleet or freezeing rain on top of it.or frozen to the roof ,i use a plastic snow shovel,a kids snow shovel works well except for the short handle,a narrow blade is better then wide, a broom wont do anything unless its dry fluffy stuff, watch out for the stuff mounted to the roof,i always leave a little snow its not so slippery that way as ice builds up on mine.nnys idea is good i have solar panels up all year so it doesnt work for me.

RE: New kitty...maybe!

to many people are just dropping off there pets or just moveing and leaveing them behind to fend for themselfs its good that you gave her a home,we have cats and kittens we have taken in and try to find them new homes and end up keeping them sometimes, we also feed a wild feral cat colony and make something so they can get inside during bad weather and have a warmer place to sleep.they need all the help they can get during the winter months.

RE: 83 monaco, p30, dexter tag - brake parts source or numbers?

went thru the same thing not long ago mor/ryde was the only place to get parts after much searching i needed the syncor valve cost $360 from mor/ryde i found a rebuilt on the west coast but was almost the same cost as new so i went new, didnt need any other parts so there still stock, older special parts like that are hard to come by.mor/ryde is the only place i found that stocks them for there set up.i thought of changeing over but didnt come up with anything, newer units used electric brakes like whats used on TTs.my transmission is a chevy tubo 400 rv model with a 454,has the drum brake on the back of tranney, you may be able to find a place that would reline your old one, older shops used to do stuff like that newer shops dont know what your talking about or how to do it or where to get the parts.midland,bendex/haldex product page on the internet might help if you can get numbers off what you have then try napa they seem to have sorces to find hard to find parts, let me know what you find out on getting parts or a change over.

the only bad thing about them is all the shifting if you run the interstates all the time its not bad.if you have leg, knee or ankle problems you might want to go automatic.

RE: Anybody ever build a 12v generator?

a 1 wire delco altanater would be a easy hook up .made one many years ago from the old style delco with external regulator you can bypass the regulator and get 120 volts dc from them at a certain rpm but you need a 12 volt battery to get it to put out 120 volt power.the battery has to power the rotor to get it to work.made my own muffler by welding a bigger muffler to the stock one, useing it for 12 volts i could idle it down pretty quite and still charge batterys with it.it was much, much quiter then a 120 volt generator.120 volt dc will run drills and saws any thing with brushes in it.they used to make a kit you could add to your older model 60s 70s truck that let you get 120 volts dc from it,you needed a hand throttle and you would set it at the rpm that the light on the box would light up think it was made by TRW back then.
